Tim Howell Web Design is a Cheshire based web and app design company run, not surprisingly, by one man - Tim Howell!
Read on to find out a little about me and what I do!
Who am I?
I am a long term internet junkie who upgraded my Sinclair, Atari and Commodore computers to a PC in 1989 and first went "on line" with a 4800 baud dial up modem to connect to BBS sites and CompuServe. The cost of the computer at the time was £2,500 for which I got a 14 inch monitor, 4mb RAM and a 40Mb Hard drive! From the beginning of the "world wide web" around 1991 through to the launch of the Netscape browser in 1993, I was hooked, and taught myself how to build websites finishing my first hand coded site way back in 1996. Using all my accumulated knowledge and experience of the internet since then, my aim now is to help small and medium organisations get onto the web in style, and for a relatively small fee do all the geeky stuff they don't know how (or don't want) to do.
What do I do?
I build new websites and remodel old ones, maintain websites, SEO, host websites, register domain names, build mobile apps and design logos. I offer a personal, one on one service designed to take the geekiness out of the process and guide you through the maze of options you face in the connected world. I offer as much or as little assistance as you need to feel comfortable in maintaining your online presence.
Let me look after your online presence, leaving you to get on with what you do best - your business!
How do I do it?
By using a CMS (Content Management System) like Joomla! or Wordpress I can build and manage your new website. Think of a CMS as an operating system for websites in the same way as Windows is for PC or OSX is for Mac. I can also maintain your site going forward if you wish. With a little time and effort you could learn to manage the site yourself from any internet connected location.
Why do I do it?
How else can I justify the cost of all the very latest and greatest computer equipment, software and a whole bunch of other vaguely internet related gadgets? Of course I do it for the money, but I also do it for fun because I love everything internet and because I really do enjoy it. What better way to earn a living? I like to describe it as a hobby that pays it own way and makes a significant contribution to keeping the Apple share price up!
Outside of work, I have been married to Emma since 1991 and have three grown up (I use the word loosely) children, I am also an expert flour miller ( I was in the industry for more than 30 years, and am available for consultancy work if required !), I like to play golf and ride motorbikes. I am a real gadget man and love my toys - my next purchase will hopefully be a drone which I can use professionally to add some great video to websites but also just have some fun with.
I travelled the world widely with work when I had a proper job, and as part of that work was based in Bangkok for 15 months and on regular assignment throughout Asia, spent 8 years living in New Zealand and 2 years in Australia before returning to the UK in 2013
